Egypt: Larger Training Center Offers Hope for the Deaf

Ministry Partner: Anglican Diocese of Egypt

This project in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Egypt allows for the enlargement of the wood working training shop currently being successfully operated by the Diocese as part of the Vocational Training Center (VTC) for deaf students. By relocating to a larger facilities, 100 students will receive woodworking training skills each year more than doubling the current enrollment. The high-quality products produced in the classes will be sold helping to maintain the training facility. The VTC staff will build relationships with local businesses in order to help place graduates. Students wanting to start their own business will receive assistance and training. The woodworking training classes will facilitate deaf students employment skills and income in order to promote their social and financial independence.

Myanmar: Microenterprise Project Help People Escape Poverty

Ministry Partner: Five Talents International

This project in partnership with Five Talents focuses on a savings and loan program to help families in Myanmar. Five Talents International with partner with the Mother's Union in Myanmar to build capacity and expand the agency's savings and loan program. As a result, female beneficiaries will be able to participate in savings and lending groups and develop income-generating activities to help support their families. A total of 180 people will benefit directly by learning basic business and live skills, including how to save money and manage their savings. The work of the 180 people will also benefit the household income of an average of five family members each, for a total of 900 additional beneficiaries.

Diocese of Peru: Small business Loan Program Creates Jobs for Women

Ministry Partner: Five Talents International

The Anglican Relief and Development Fund, Five Talents International and the Ecumenical Church Loan Fund (ECLOF) will provide loan capital to ECLOF members in Lima and single mothers in Huancavelica. The clients' capacity to save and borrow will be built and strengthened with basic business skill training to community members and the Anglican Diocese of Peru will provide spiritual training. The number of lives impacted will be 3,500.

Amount: $39,200

Northern Kenya: Drought Sparks Emergency Relief Effort

This project will provide funds to follow-up on the needs due to the worst food shortage in the past 60 years in the Horn of Africa. The Bible Society of Kenya, Anglican Church in Kenya, the Anglican Diocese of Kitale and ARDF will work together to coordinate a holistic response to supply food, audio scripture and water to the Turkana District in Northern Kenya. Three water wells will be completed as part of the project. 5,050 lives will be impacted by this holistic program.

South Africa: Fikelela AIDS Project, Youth Learn to Prevent the Spread of HIV

Fikelela AIDS Project, an outreach program of the Anglican Church in Cape Town, South Africa, will bring its "Agents of Change" peer education program to help minimize HIV/AIDS among young people. It attacks the risky behaviors associated with HIV/AIDS prevalence and empowers and inspires youth to become "agents of change" in their communities. Peer educators are selected and trained to run a life-skills program in their churches and communities, covering such issues as HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancy, alcohol, drugs and media. This project will reach 4,180 people with information on HIV/AIDS through the training of 160 peer educators.
